Eco-technology
Bedfordia‘s Eco-technology division is dedicated to promoting, developing and utilising new technologies to respond to today’s environmental challenges.
We use our expertise to deliver eco-technology solutions that meet those environmental challenges whilst supporting the sustainability of farming and rural communities.
The first commercial application of our eco-technology development was the creation, in 2006, of BIOGEN to build and operate a new farm based anaerobic digestion (AD) plant that produces renewable energy from the recycling of food-chain-waste. This new integrated model of anaerobic digestion (IAD) is a full scale, fully operational plant.
As well as operating this first commercial unit at Twinwoods in Bedfordshire, BIOGEN has plans to develop a nationwide coverage of plants in partnership with other farmers across the UK.
The BIOGEN process provides a win, win, win solution:
-
Win 1 - Food waste solution
It is an exemplary green solution for the recycling of food-chain-waste (including both solid and liquid waste from commercial food processing, catering, retailing, slurry, and other animal by-products) -
Win 2 - Renewable energy
It generates renewable energy, which in turn conserves non-renewable sources and helps energy companies meet government requirements on electricity from renewable origins -
Win 3 - Rich bio-fertiliser
It produces a highly stable, nutrient rich, liquid biofertiliser that can be applied back onto the local farm land in a much more efficient and environmentally beneficial way than slurry.
It achieves this using the most environmentally beneficial technology available. It is a carbon neutral process based on a recycling technology which, due to its environmental efficiency, is significantly higher on the waste management scale than more traditional methods of disposal.
