Agriculture - Open Farm Sunday
Every other year Bedfordia Farms takes part in Open Farm Sunday, an event sponsored by Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF). The farm is opened up to the general public and provides an opportunity for visitors to make the link between the food on their plate and farming.
Bedfordia Farms participated in Open Farm Sunday on Sunday 12th June from 11.00am to 4.00pm. As in previous years, there was plenty to occupy all ages. Activities on offer included the chance to see a sow and her piglets up close, a static machinery display, a lorry tipping grain, a working bee hive, local honey and bacon for sale, farm walks, face painting, pig roast, ice cream, tea and cake stalls and the ever popular tractor and trailer ride through the farm and around the food waste recycling plant belonging to sister company BiogenGreenfinch.
Contributions and sales of refreshments raised £2,500 which will be shared between a number of local groups in Milton Ernest [Milton Ernest Lower School, Activitots, Milton Ernest Youth Club, Milton Ernest Playing Field], Butterfly House in Bedford, The Stables Seed Sowers Project, Bolnhurst and national charities Care for the Family, and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
