Agriculture

The Agricultural Division of Bedfordia Group is run by Bedfordia Farms Ltd, a professional farming business started in 1939 with a 40 Ha farm in Milton Ernest. Today Bedfordia farms more than 2,600 Ha (approx 6,500 acres) with our farming activities focused on:

  • Arable

    mainly combinable cropping especially Wheat and Oil Seed Rape
  • Grain

    storage capacity of 27,000 tonnes, 300 tonne per hour processing capacity facilities, accredited laboratory facilities and LIFFE registered futures store
  • Livestock

    1,100 breeding sows, supplying 23,000 pigs per annum.

We pride ourselves on taking a highly responsible approach to farming and land management. We endeavour to meet or exceed all quality, health & safety and animal welfare standards and we have a positive commitment to the environment and conservation that has been recognised as helping to set a standard in UK farming as is clear from our active involvement in many environmental initiatives.

Bedfordia Farms Ltd is an active member of LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) which promotes Integrated Farming for the production of affordable food in harmony with the environment. We are also heavily involved in DEFRA’s Countryside Stewardship Scheme to enhance and conserve English landscapes, their wildlife and history, and to help the local community to enjoy them. We have implemented an ELS Scheme for the protection and enhancement of the natural environment. We are recognised in the top 10% of UK farms in regard to size and performance, as well as for being a pioneer and innovator of new farming methods, and a leader in setting standards for responsible farming practice.

Contract Farming

Bedfordia views land management as a long term responsibility. With this in mind we are seeking land owners who would be interested in a discreet efficient and forward thinking farming service. We are interested in working with partners with similar business aims to farm profitably, with integrity for the long term benefit of the land owner.
